PNG Fashion & Design Week Limited is pleased to officially announce the staging of the PNG TPA Fashion Festival exhibiting creative entrepreneurs and “PNG
creations” to the world through:
- Fashion SME Trade Fair – Friday 2 Dec, National Museum and Art Gallery
- NGCB RUNWAY22 – Saturday 3 Dec, Sir Hubert Murray Stadium
The Festival is a gathering of cultural and creative intellect – a fusion of indigenous cultures, traditions, and modernisation. A showcasing of authenticity, originality, the expression of heritage, of cultural identity, of ancestral knowledge handed down from generation to generation; of tribal designs and art forms that have survived over thousands of years and speak of our ways as a people, and our existence as tribes of most culturally and linguistically diverse nation on earth.
The Festival is the biggest and most successful annual industry event with a global reach. Internationally recognised for providing a truly inclusive platform that caters for all regardless of gender, size, ethnicity, race, disability, social background, level of education, etc.
The 2022 chapter focuses on creative entrepreneurs in the Micro to Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) space; and is themed “Designing for Growth.
Sustainable Value Creation for MSMEs.”
NGCB RUNWAY22
The main event NGCB RUNWAY22 will be hosted at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Saturday the 3rd of December. This highly anticipated annual fashion design show celebrates the iconic 80s era and the role of the cultural creative industries in revolutionizing global popular culture through fashion, design, music, art, dance, etc. The 80s decade – inventions, creations, styles, trends, influence and impact are timeless and the NGCB RUNWAY22 honours the era of big, bold and bright and the creative ingenuity that continues to inspire creatives in the digitized era.
NGCB RUNWAY22 features:
- PNG’s leading fashion designers/fashion brands exhibiting the season’s best collections through the Throwback 80s line and Ready-to-Wear ‘Pret-a-Porter’ garments
- Fashion models
- Live music
- Live painting and fine art displays
- MSME trade and exhibition of designer clothing and apparel, fashion accessories, handicrafts, art, PNG ethnic cuisine, and more

NGCB RUNWAY22 recognizes that when we support locally owned and operated MSMEs in the cultural creative space, future prospects of the creative economy are secured and sustainable development and community transformation at the grassroots level is ensured.
The NGBC RUNWAY22 further recognises that:
- The Creative Economy is as an important contributor to inclusive social and economic growth worldwide.
- The Cultural Creative Industries (CCIs) in 2022 are the most rapidly growing sector in the world today, generating over 2 trillion in global revenue and contributing 5-10% of world The CCIs account for up to 50 million jobs worldwide.
- MSMEs are the backbone of the PNG economy and despite challenges and barriers faced, continue to drive growth of sustainable platforms in our communities nationwide.
- Globally, MSMEs account for 90% of business, 60-70% of employment (two thirds of all jobs in the world) and 50% of global GDP.
- The need for new opportunities for cultural and creative entrepreneurs in the MSME space to continue to realise their full potential as the growth engine of the Cultural Creative Industries and “Creative Economy” in PNG.
- Developing countries now view the Creative Economy and it’s industries as strategic sectors that are forecasted as “high-growth sectors of the world economy” essential for trade and export growth, economic diversification and employment creation, among other key areas.
- In PNG, the Cultural Creative Industries and the Creative Economy have yet to be formally recognised as growing economic sectors; however, industry- driven initiatives continue to ensure collaboration and partnerships with key government agencies, the private sector and international donor partners, providing direct access to capacity and capability building programs and activities to fuel inclusive and sustainable development and growth of industry players and the CCIs in Papua New Guinea.
- The Cultural Creative Industries include design, fashion, music, art, publications, radio, print media, television, film, drama, dance, ICT, etc. Television is the largest sector generating $477 billion in global
Ultimately, our program has given rise to greater understanding and appreciation of the diversity and richness of PNG’s creative potential and sends out a strong message to policy makers to recognize the CCI’s as dynamic engines of inclusive and sustainable growth. As a people of vibrant cultures and rich creative intellect, we have the critical elements that provide the recipe for a thriving Cultural Creative economy.
